Thank you for your
interest in constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians.
Constitutional recognition is about recognising the special and unique place
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have in our nation and enabling
us to move forward with as a nation which is enriched by the contribution of
all Australians. This is an important step in strengthening the
relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, and building
trust.
To progress this
important reform the Government has moved to establish an Expert Panel that will include
Indigenous and community leaders, constitutional experts, and parliamentary
members from across the political spectrum. The Expert Panel will lead
broad consultation during 2011 to build consensus on the recognition of
Indigenous people in the Constitution and will be asked to develop options for
constitutional change which will attract broad support from the Australian
community.
For this referendum
to succeed it needs this process of consultation and public discussion and it
should be a conversation that all Australians involve themselves in.

Subject: Just another insult towards the
Australian Aborigines
The whole Australian
Constitution has to be re-written!
Start from the other end of the
equation!
The current constitution is a
failure and completely unrecognizable. The present system will simply deliver
another insult towards the Aborigines the way this matter is proceeding right
now.
Not one decent human being
can hold on to a system who have ignored and denied our aboriginals for such a
long time. It is absurd!
A "recognition" is a decandent
term. More, much more action is needed to correct this horrible and ongoing
errors.
